Children's Miracle Network
Members of Commerce Middle School FCCLA recently donated $250.00 to the Helping Hands Fund benefiting Children’s Miracle Network. Students sold candy grams during the months of December and February to raise funds.
CMS Can Food Drive
Student's from the Commerce Middle School Chapter of FCCLA recently donated over 100 pounds of food to the North East Georgia Food Bank located in Athens, Georgia. Students from all the FCS classes donated non-perishable can food items as a competition between the classes. The winning class received a pizza party compliments of FCCLA.
Diabetes Awareness and Education
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in the next 10 years the growing cases of childhood obesity will lead to 35 - 60 % of all American children being diagnosed with Type Two Diabetes. As part of her Focus on the Children Project for FCCLA STAR Events 7th grade student Ashley Harold created a presentation about Diabetes and presented it to the 5th and 6th grade classes on March 8th and 9th. Ashley talked about the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, ways they can be identified, symptoms, and treatments. She also gave the students tips on healthy eating and introduced them to the Food Guide Pyramid.

FCCLA Day at the Capital and World of Coke Tour
On Thursday February 10th students from Commerce Middle School and Commerce High School attended the annual event FCCLA Day at the Capital; FCCLA stands for Family Career Community Leaders of America. Students meet and had a brief question and answer session with State Representative Tommy Benton and State Senator Frank Ginn. After the tour of the Capital students participated in a tour of the World of Coke in Downtown Atlanta.

FCCLA Week Activities

This Wednesday will be wear Red Day to promote FCCLA here at CMS.
Wednesday
FCCLA will be selling Candy Grams and Flower Pens from now until Valentine’s Day during lunch to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network.
There will be an FCCLA meeting after school today from 3:00-4:00 in the FCS room all officers need to plan on attending. We will be creating Candy Grams for our Children’s Miracle Network Fundraiser.
FCCLA T-shirt Day will Friday February 11th. Wear any FCCLA T-shirt, or Sweatshirt from this year or last in support of FCCLA.
The FCCLA Breakfast will be on Friday February 11th from 7:00 -7:40. Please sign up on Ms. Traylor’s door if you plan on attending.
Students who are attending FCCLA Day at the Capital on Thursday need to stop by and see Ms. Traylor today to pick up a letter to take home.

Yesterday a group from Commerce Middle and High School attended FCCLA Day at the Capital with other schools from around our area. The students got to take a private tour with state representative Tommy Benton and afterwards participated in a tour of the World of Coke.
